A print-ready file in four steps

Bleed, CMYK, PDF and black text: four things that decide whether a job goes straight to print.

Flyers and design

The most common reason a print job is delayed is a file that has to be fixed before it can go on the press. We check these four things in every file; when they are right, the job goes straight to print.

1. 3 mm bleed

Add 3 mm of bleed on every edge (5 mm for bound work) and keep text at least 3-5 mm from the edge. A 90 × 50 mm business card is therefore a 96 × 56 mm print file.

2. CMYK and 300 dpi

Save the file in CMYK and images at 200-300 dpi or more. Screen RGB colours turn duller in print.

3. PDF with fonts embedded

We prefer print files as PDF with the fonts embedded, so the print looks exactly like your screen.

4. Black text

100% K black text on a coloured background is overprinted. For large black areas, ask us for the right mix.

Not sure your file is ready? Send it with the job ticket and we will check it before printing.
